Federal Immigration Programs

In order to better select the most qualified skilled workers to be Canadian immigrant, IRCC launched Express Entry (EE) application system in 2015 and the processing time is reduced to six months. The whole system is an electronic scoring system with a total score of 1200. The applicant can get additional points if they have provincial nomination, qualifying offer of employment or Canadian educational Credentials. The EE application process is as follows:

Qualification evaluation--establish EE profile--enter into the pool--receive invitation--submit PR application--application approved and get PR card.

There are two major classes under federal immigration program, which are economic class and family class. Under economic class, the applicant can immigrate to Canada and needs to contribute to the economic development of Canada through their professional skills or investment. Under family class, Canadian citizens and PRs can sponsor their family member, so the applicant can immigrate to Canada through sponsorship.

EE is used to manage applications for permanent residence under these economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trade Program and the Canadian Experience Class.
