BC Secondary/Elementary Schools

In BC, elementary school is from grade 1 to grade 7 for students aged 6 to 12 and secondary school is from grade 8 to grade 12 for students aged 13 to 18. International students need to complete 2 years high schools study before they can apply for a university. Students can apply for public schools through school districts, for example, Burnaby School District, West Vancouver School District, Richmond School District, etc. Students need to provide stamped transcript of most recent 2 to 3 years and can choose three schools. Private school has different admission requirements and relavantly higher tuition. Some private schools require an interview or English language test result.

 
To be awarded British Columbia Certificate of Graduation (Dogwood Diploma), the graduation requirements are as follows:
  • Finish a total of 20 courses and earn 80 credits
    • 12 required courses (48 credits)
    • 7 electives (28 credits)
    • 1 graduation transitions course (4 credits)
  • Complete 150 minutes per week of physical activity and 30 hours of work experience or community service.
  • Write 5 provincial examinations, including Language Arts 10, Science 10, Mathematics 10, Social Studies 11 or 12, and Language Arts 12.
