Canadian Higher Education

Canadian higher education institutions consist of university and college. University focuses on academic research while college put more emphasis on vocational education and professional skills. Canadian colleges often collaborate with universities and many students transfer from colleges to universities. Colleges also offer professional skills trainings to meet the needs of different students. Programs offered by the college generally include diploma, degree and university transfer. 

 

 

Canadian Elementary and Secondary Education

Canadian elementary and secondary schools are devided into public and private categories. Public schools implement district systems and if students live in the school's nearby community, they can study in that school.The corresponding area of each school is decided by the local education bureau. Private schools are not restricted by the district system and have right to choose students. In BC, elementary school is from grade 1 to grade 7 for students aged 6 to 12 and secondary school is from grade 8 to grade 12 for students aged 13 to 18. International students need to complete 2 years high schools study before they can apply for a university. Students can apply for public schools through school districts, for example, Burnaby School District, West Vancouver School District, Richmond School District, etc. Students need to provide stamped transcript of most recent 2 to 3 years and can choose three schools. Private school has different admission requirements and relevantly higher tuition. Some private schools require an interview or English language test result.
